Dolinka the Sheep

I was so proud of myself when I had a look at finished Dolinka so I have to share :)

The original pattern is called Dolly the sheep Amigurumi fluffy toy design by LittleOwlsHut and can be found for FREE on Ravelry (you have to have an account to access it but it is also for free ).

Pattern on its own is quite easy just the shaping the nostrils could be possibly tricky. However, if you follow pictures in the pattern you can make some sense of it :)

Notes to myself:

STUFFING - use some old cotton shirt previously shredded into approximately 1cm wide stripes. It's always a good idea to recycle something.

WOOLY TEXTURE - for wooly texture of the body use a hair brush with artificial boar hair and gently brush over the acrylic yarn until desire texture is achieved.

TAIL - crochet simply tail instead of using a button. It's more cute :)

HOOVES - Rnd1= in magic ring 6sc (6 sc); Rnd2= inc 2 in each sc (12 sc); Rnd 3-5= sc into each sc (12 sc); Rnd6=*dec, 2sc* reapeat 2 times more (9sc); continue with white yarn for legs=20x round of 9sc

Chain Bracelet

This chain bracelet is an example how to interlace a rings and split rings in a different way instead of traditional stacking rings on top of each other.

I used 4 shuttles, 2 different colors and LOTS of patience :)  as it was challenging from time to time get four shuttles organized.

Although, it was time consuming I would tat it again as I like the finished effect.

Next video tutorial :)

Next video tutorial is going to be about picots, what they are, how to make them and how to use a picot guide. Will be released very soon so stay tuned to find out more.

Until then, Have a Nice Day :)

Silk Knot Cufflinks

I have made these cufflinks after I'd bought a nice shirt without any sleeve buttons, just holes, which unfortunately I realized after I got home.

After a little bit of searching I came across of an idea to make some on my own as I was not willing to pay for the overpriced ones from shop.

Surprisingly, silk knot cufflinks are VERY easy to make and they cost me about 20p per one color pair, about 50p for multicolored one and it took me about 1 minute to make one pair :)

Ornament Pattern ~EN~

This very easy ornament is made out by combination of two different elements - flower and star.

The video tutorial for the gold flower is in my video tutorial #9 or HERE and the brown star is in the video tutorial #10 or HERE.

At the end of the second video (#10) is a little segment on how to combine both of them to make this ornament.

Both practice videos are great for practicing the very basic of tatting for anyone who is just starting with tatting.

If you have a pics of your ornament please feel free to share it with me :)

Leafy Snail design by Me

I started to tat this motif because I was incredibly  bored and I wanted to put my energy into something creative.

At the beginning it was supposed to be a simply bracelet but I lost myself in the time and released that the piece was longer than expected :)

Good news is that I can wrap it around my wrist exactly three times so it still makes a nice layered leafy bracelet for summer.

Speedy Tatting ~ Fossils Earrings

Speedy Tatting series continues :)

The pattern for these earrings is mine and it  was inspired by Edwige Renaudin.

This is a variation of my previous earrings as I did omit the picots. I interlaced the ring different way and I made few rings more.

Wave bracelet design by Edwige Renaudin

I found the pattern for this bracelet in Edwige Renaudin book La Frivolite aux Navettes.

Except one small ring at the beginning, it consist of chains only and was tatted with Front side/ Back side tatting. All beads were strung on core thread.

The golden chains were made using ordinary DS and it was tatted from left to right. The blue chains on other hand was tatted from right to left without turning over using not flipped stitches.

It is nice & easy pattern for anyone who wish to start with Front/Back side tatting or just want to practice more :)

Fossil Earrings desing by Me

I've recently bought a french book La Frivolite aux navettes by Edwige Renaudin and I found few very interesting things there.

One of them was making multiple rings on split ring. As I don't speak french it was quite tricky to figure out the technique especially if the tatting was done Front side/Back side.

Once I got it and played with it the idea for these Fossil Earrings was born. For some reason I like them so much that I've made a few different color pairs already and the pattern is one of my favorite.

Despite their look they are easy and surprisingly very fast to make, about 30 minutes for one earring, and they are made by using Front/Back side tatting. They hold the shape very well just by the steaming them so no stiffening is necessary.

Maybe next time I'll put some beads there as well :)

Easy Flower Pattern ~EN~

Flower is designed by Me so please respect my intellectual property :0)

Flower consists of 5petals made of ring, one stem and 2 leaves.

You need to know how to make Double Stitch, Ring and Chain.

If you get stuck you can watch video HERE

Detailed pattern:

Start with first R(Ring) 23DS (Double stitch). Close the ring but not completely. Leave about 1cm (1/8 inch) of bare thread.

Make 4 more rings the same way as the first one and you should have 5 Rings in total now.

RW (Reverse Work)

Make sure petals are not twisted.

Bring First and Last Ring very close together.

CH(Chain) 20DS (First DS of the chain connects First and Last Petal)

RW (Reverse Work - flip the work 180 degrees vertically )

R 30 DS (first leave)
R 25 DS (second leave)

Make a knot.

Hide the ends.

And do not forget to send me a photo of your flower :)

Brief Pattern:

*R23*, rep *.* 4 more times
Ch 20
R30
R25
Finish off.

Use Those Useless Endings :)

I don't  consider myself as a proper hoarder but I really don't like to throw away anything what can be useful for something.

This is one of the reasons why I keep all the thread scraps.

As we all know we should keep bands from thread balls as they have all those important information about thread like color No, dye lot and so on.

To make my bands nicely organized I usually make a little thread sample out of the scraps and then sellotape it on the band or I just use "bad beginnings" which were easier to cut off than undo.

If I've collected enough of thread scraps I use them as a stuffing to my crochet projects like keyrings  or some miniatures.

Do you have any good ideas on how to use them?

Please share with me I'll be glad to hear them :)

Basket Pendants design by Sumie

The pattern for these cute basket pendants is from the Japanese book "Tatting lace for the first time" or another translation is "My first tatting lace" (as I don't speak Japanese not sure which one is more accurate :) wrote by Sumie.

The red one is made by almost following the pattern to the dot.

It consists of three rounds plus the handles. Originally, every round starts with a new thread so it means hiding ends every time you finish the round and because I didn't like that I've made some adjustments. I used split rings, mock picots and split chain to avoid starting each round with the new thread.

The gold basket was made by using the same pattern except I did omit all ornamental picots as I found them quite overwhelming.

One basket took about 60 minutes to tat and the video of how I made it can be watched by clicking HERE.

Have a nice day :)

Split Ring Bracelet

I hadn't done anything with split rings for a while so I made this bracelet.

It's based on Jane Eborall pattern which can be found HERE.

I used just the center part of the pattern as I wanted to make some nice bracelet to match the Roundabout earrings.

Tatting is a nice way how to spend a lunch breaks :)

Glass Mat by Mary Konoir

As I previously mentioned this pattern can be found in the book Tatting with Visual Patterns by Mary Konior.

I did alternate the centre of the mat, as I felt creative, so I made a triangle instead of circle.

The pattern on its own could not be simpler, just basic rings and chains but finished result looks quite complicated and effective.

It measures about 15cm / 5.9 inches across.

As I am not real a fan of doilies, I just like to tat them, I will try to find a good home for this one :)

Getting Higher and Higher ~ Cardboard table continues

I have not forgotten about building myself a cardboard table yet, it is just more time consuming than I initially  thought.

It's mainly because I've chosen to go probably the most complicated way possible as I like a challenge. Good think about that is that I will recycle far most cardboard "waste" :D

So far I've managed to cut about 74 cardboard squares per one leg. Each square is about 7x7cm or 2.8x2.8inches. There are 296 square altogether at the moment and I glued them to make four equal table legs.

One leg measures 71 cm or 28 inches now which is close to the half of height of the table that I want.

Just another 300 squares and I'll be done with legs :)

Glass Mat in Progress design by Mary Konior

Had a very busy week at work so I was trying to relax a little bit at evenings and enjoy myself.

I dug up the book Tatting with Visual Patterns by Mary Konior and found the Glass Mat diagram there.

Very basic and very repetitive so I didn't really need to concentrate that much on pattern. I just could switch my mind off for a while and tat
which I appreciated a lot.

It was like a meditation but with tatting :)

Hmm, maybe I can call it tattingation? :D

Roundabout Earrings design by Marilee Rockley

These earrings are also designed by Marilee Rockley and you can find the pattern for free HERE or on her BLOG.

These were very first thing I tatted with beads. The pattern on its own is quite easy, just working with the beads might me a little bit fiddly first time until you find out the way how to handle them :)

Overall they look nice, it was fun to make them and finally I found some use for all those teeny-tiny beads I've been collecting for years and never had use for them :)

Gluing Myself a Table

I have been playing with the idea to build my own table for about two weeks now because I could not see the table, with specific measurements that I want, anywhere or at least not for reasonable price.

Initially, I wanted to build it out of plastic plumbing pipes but it is hard to get them here unless you buy in large bulks and cost would be quite high anyway. And I need to mention that I have no drill and that would add to the cost also so I quickly dismissed this option.

Then a brilliant idea came to me. Build it from old cardboard boxes! :)

I LOVE recycling so it makes this project perfect. No harsh chemicals are used so if you have kids you can turn the building table into family weekend fun.

I started hoarding materials. I got an ordinary school safe PVA glue, cutter for cutting cardboard, acrylic color to make it waterproof when it's finished and of course lots of cardboard boxes.

If you don't have any place to get the boxes from, go and ask at your grocery supermarket. I am sure they will be more than happy to give you some.

I will keep you posted with the progress once I do some REAL work.

Wish me luck :)

Compass Pendant design by Marilee Rockley

This pattern is also from Tatted Jewelry book written by Marilee Rockley.

This pendant is made out of two rounds.

The first round was nice and easy.

Second one was a little bit tricky as the pattern called for a lock join with  shuttle 2  instead of shuttle 1 (core thread) at some places. Hadn't heard of it before so it took me a while to figure out what it was.

I don't really like the final result so it is very unlikely that I will tat it again but nice practice though :)

Spring Earrings design by Me

I made these earrings based on Marilee Rockley's blue Earrings and necklace set.

As I didn't have a pattern I made my own.

I skipped all picots and put some beads instead of them. They remind me of Spring for some reason thus the name. Maybe because of  the colours?

Anyhow, one earring took me about 25 minutes to make. The pattern is quite easy so I was able to watch telly while tatting :)

Keyed Up Earrings design by Marilee Rockley

The pattern for this pair of earrings can be also found in Marilee Rockley's book Tatted Jewelry as it was mentioned in my previous post.

Once I drew the diagram it was very easy and enjoyable to tat them :)

I was very impressed when they were done to be honest as I didn't expect such a good result. I like them very much and this is a definitely "will do again" pattern for me.

BTW you don't even have to stiffen them :)

Carnival Earrings design by Marilee Rockley

I have recently purchased Tatted Jewelry book written by Marilee Rockley and these Carnival Earrings are the first pattern in it.

It was very easy to make them, even though in the book is no diagram whatsoever and I had to draw my own as I prefer to have a visual patterns to written ones. Later on, I found out that the pattern WITH the diagram is on her website.

Anyway, it took me less than 30 minutes to make one earring so in less than one hour you will end up with one lovely pair to put into your jewelry collection :)
